Cross-border logistics between Canada and the US

Selling across the border adds customs requirements to the freight plan. Ecom coordinates Canada–US freight and fulfillment on both sides, so replenishment and domestic orders can be planned together.

Ship across as freight

LTL or FTL for replenishing stock across the border. Compare freight, customs and receiving costs against the volume you need to move.

Hold stock on both sides

Inventory held in Canada and Philadelphia can serve domestic orders in each country. Import requirements still apply when stock crosses the border for replenishment.

Send parcels direct

Direct cross-border parcels can help you test demand before placing inventory abroad. Assess the landed cost, customs process and customer delivery expectation for each destination.

Section 321: do not assume duty-free entry

US duty-free de minimis treatment under Section 321 is suspended for covered commercial shipments. A low parcel value does not make an order duty-free. Before setting US shipping prices, confirm the current entry requirements, duties and fees with your customs broker.

Current guidance: US Customs and Border Protection and the February 2026 continuation order.

  • Plan for customs entry when goods cross the border, including replenishment into a US warehouse.
  • Product classification, origin and value affect the entry requirements and charges.
  • Domestic US fulfillment changes the outbound delivery leg; it does not remove import obligations on the inbound stock.

Agree the customs responsibilities before dispatch

Customs brokerage is coordinated as part of the cross-border service plan. Confirm the appointed broker, importer of record and required documents before the first movement. Clear responsibility for the entry makes it easier to investigate a hold without delaying the next shipment.

What shippers ask about the border

Do I need a US entity to sell into the States?
Selling into the US and acting as importer of record are separate questions. Your customs broker can confirm the importer arrangements and documentation for your business before stock moves. Do not assume that a US warehouse address settles those requirements.
Should I hold stock in the US or ship across per order?
Compare parcel crossings with the full cost of holding US inventory: inbound freight, customs, receiving, storage and domestic shipping. Order volume matters, but so do SKU demand, stock turnover and customer locations. Share recent US order data so we can assess the options with you.
What about duties and tariffs?
Charges depend on product classification, origin, value and the requirements in force when goods enter. Have your broker confirm the classification and landed-cost assumptions before booking. Rates should not be inferred from an older shipping quote.
Does this work in the other direction, US into Canada?
Yes. US brands can discuss inbound freight to our Canadian fulfillment centres, then ship Canadian orders domestically from that stock. Customs entry and any applicable charges still need to be addressed on the inbound movement.
Can you assess a lane outside Canada and the US?
Send the origin, destination, product details and expected volume. We will confirm whether the lane fits our services before proposing a shipment plan.

The border as a leg, not a handoff

Our own linehaul runs the crossing between buildings we operate, so a shipment into the States stays on one record.
